Pilgrims Clip Vikings in Overtime

SALEM, Mass. – Meadow Gilchrist scored 1:01 into overtime as New England College picked up their first New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) victory of the season as the Pilgrims topped Salem State 2-1 in overtime on Saturday afternoon at Rockett Arena. The Pilgrims are now 2-16 and 1-11 in the NEHC while the Vikings dip to 6-13 and 2-10.

How it Happened:

  • Halle Greenleaf notched her sixth goal of the year with less than a minute remaining in the first period as Salem State took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
  • A scoreless second period led to Kate Devlin tying the game just 1:22 into the third period as she beat goalie Delaney Cox for the equalizer. 
  • Both teams had limited scoring chances in the third, but Gilchrist ended the game quickly in overtime as her wrister on a 2-on-1 chance gave New England College the victory.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Lucy Armour (1-7) made 28 saves in the victory for the Pilgrims to earn her first win of the season.
  • Cox (3-9) stopped 31 shots for the Vikings.
  • Olivia Lindberg finished with two assists for the Pilgrims.
