Vikings Fall to Regionally Ranked Lyons

NORTON, Mass. – Salem State men's soccer traveled to Norton, Massachusetts this afternoon to take on the regionally ranked Lyons from Wheaton College. A goal in each half for the home team would lift the Lyons over the Vikings to drop Salem to 4-3-3 on the season.

How it Happened:

• Wheaton wasted no time getting on the board after finding the back of the net just two minutes into the action to give them the 1-0 tilt.
• Both teams would challenge their opponents' goalkeepers over the next 43 minutes, but neither team was successful, resulting in the home team maintaining a one-goal lead to head into the break.
• After firing off a handful of shots, the Lyons landed their second goal of the game in the 72^nd minute to give them the two-goal advantage, which would carry through the remainder of the game to solidify Wheaton's 2-0 victory over Salem State.  

Inside the Numbers:

• Marcelo Silva (Marlborough, Mass.) made five saves in today's effort.
• This is the first time since the 2021 season that Wheaton has defeated Salem State.

The Vikings are returning home this Saturday, October 5th, to host the Buccaneers from Massachusetts Maritime Academy. Additionally, Salem State men's soccer will celebrate Alumni Day with an alumni game at 9 a.m., followed by their kickoff at 1 p.m.
