THE LEAD:
The Salem State Vikings delivered a dominant performance in Little East Conference play, pulling away from the Southern Maine Huskies for an 18–8 Senior Day victory. Salem State set the tone early with a fast start, built a steady lead through the first half, and used a decisive second half surge to separate from the Huskies and secure the conference win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Vikings hosted the Huskies of Southern Maine University for an LEC conference matchup, celebrating their seniors while delivering a dominate performance, securing the 18-8 win over the Huskies.
The Vikings wasted no time setting the tone, coming out with strong energy and all offense in the opening quarter. Their offense clicked immediately, netting five quick goals while the defense held the Huskies scoreless to build a 5–0 lead after the first quarter.
Salem State carried that momentum into the second quarter, though Southern Maine began to find some rhythm offensively. The Huskies managed four goals in the period, but the Vikings continued to respond each time, adding three of their own to maintain control. It would be the Vikings to head into halftime ahead of the Huskies 8-4.
Coming out of the half, the Vikings put the game out of reach. A dominant third quarter saw Salem State score six goals while limiting the Huskies to just two. Their balanced attack and strong defensive play pushed the lead to 14–6 heading into the final frame.
The fourth quarter would be controlled mostly by the Vikings, as the Vikings added four more goals while holding Southern Maine to two, sealing an dominate 18–8 victory.
