THE LEAD:
The Salem State Vikings battled in a back-and-forth Little East Conference matchup against the WestConn Huskies, but a momentum-shifting second half lifted the Huskies to a 15–10 victory. Salem State held a narrow halftime lead after a strong offensive first half, but WestConn used a decisive third quarter and consistent scoring down the stretch to pull away and secure the conference win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Salem State Vikings battled in a tightly contested Little East Conference matchup against the WestConn Huskies, but a strong second half push by the Huskies led to a 15–10 final.
Both teams came out energized, trading goals and possessions throughout a fast-paced opening quarter that ended in a 4–4 tie. The intensity carried into the second quarter, with each side continuing to find success on offense while tightening up defensively. Salem State managed to edge ahead before halftime, outscoring WestConn 5–4 in the frame to take a narrow 9–8 lead into halftime.
Coming out of halftime, the momentum shifted in favor of the Huskies. WestConn would score four unanswered goals in the third quarter while holding the Vikings scoreless, turning a one-goal deficit into a 12–9 advantage heading into the final period.
The Vikings continued to battle and refused to back down, but WestConn maintained control down the stretch. The Huskies added three more goals in the fourth quarter while limiting the Vikings to just one, denying any comeback attempt from the Vikings.
Despite a strong first-half showing and balanced effort on both ends of the field, the Vikings ultimately fell 15–10 as the Huskies capitalized on a decisive third quarter to secure the conference victory.
