THE LEAD – The Salem State men's lacrosse team dropped a Little East Conference (LEC) matchup at Mass. Maritime, 25-6 Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In the first quarter after Mass. Maritime opened with three quick goals, Salem chipped away at the deficit with scores from Landon Rice (Sturbridge, Mass.) and Joseph Turpin (Groveland, Mass.) at 07:19 and 05:35, respectively. However, the Bucs closed out the last three minutes of the frame with two goals of their own and took a 5-2 lead going into the second.
- The second quarter was all Mass. Maritime, as the hosts outscored Salem, 8-1, and would ultimately take a 13-3 lead at the half. Daniel Kane highlighted the high-scoring quarter for the hosts with two scores.
- After an early Mass. Maritime goal to start the third, Salem answered back with a score of its own from Cameron Collins (Peabody, Mass.). Despite the goal, the Bucs tacked on two more scores to go up 16-4. Connor Vittands (Gloucester, Mass.) would get in on the scoring for Salem in the third at 03:46, but once again, the hosts closed out the quarter with two more scores and had an 18-5 advantage going into the fourth.
- Just like the second quarter, the Bucs offense took over in the final frame, outscoring the Vikes, 7-1, for the eventual 25-6 win. Eli Ikkela highlighted the quarter with a hat trick for the hosts.
