THE LEAD: The Salem State men's lacrosse team extended its win streak to three games with a 19-8 win over Mt. St. Vincent Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After both sides exchanged opening goals early in the first, Salem scored three unanswered goals for the remainder of the first and would go up 4-1 after one. James Tatro (Byfield, Mass.), Connor Vittands (Gloucester, Mass.), and Joseph Turpin (Groveland, Mass.) highlighted the scoring by each scoring goals.
- In the second, the Vikings continued where they left off in the first and outscored the visitors, 5-1 in the frame. Despite a quick Dolphins goal to kick off the second, the Blue and Orange scored five-straight goals, highlighted by a Landon Rice (Sturbridge, Mass.) score that made it 9-2 with 15 seconds as the squad headed into the break up seven.
- Once again in the third, it was all Vikings as the squad pushed its lead up to 12 (16-4) by winning the frame, 7-2. Rice and Cameron Collins (Peabody, Mass.) highlighted the Blue and Orange's scoring with two goals apiece.
- While both sides played a more competitive final quarter, Salem never let Mt. St. Vincent get any closer than 11 as the squad ended up taking the contest, 19-8. Three different Vikings ended up finding the back of the net in the frame, including Rice, Vittands, and Jack Michaud (Tyngsborough, Mass.).
