THE LEAD: The Salem State men's lacrosse team extended its win streak to three games with a 19-8 win over Mt. St. Vincent Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After both sides exchanged opening goals early in the first, Salem scored three unanswered goals for the remainder of the first and would go up 4-1 after one. James Tatro (Byfield, Mass.)Connor Vittands (Gloucester, Mass.), and Joseph Turpin (Groveland, Mass.) highlighted the scoring by each scoring goals. 
  • In the second, the Vikings continued where they left off in the first and outscored the visitors, 5-1 in the frame. Despite a quick Dolphins goal to kick off the second, the Blue and Orange scored five-straight goals, highlighted by a Landon Rice (Sturbridge, Mass.) score that made it 9-2 with 15 seconds as the squad headed into the break up seven.
  • Once again in the third, it was all Vikings as the squad pushed its lead up to 12 (16-4) by winning the frame, 7-2. Rice and Cameron Collins (Peabody, Mass.) highlighted the Blue and Orange's scoring with two goals apiece. 
  • While both sides played a more competitive final quarter, Salem never let Mt. St. Vincent get any closer than 11 as the squad ended up taking the contest, 19-8. Three different Vikings ended up finding the back of the net in the frame, including Rice, Vittands, and Jack Michaud (Tyngsborough, Mass.).

 INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Four different Vikings finished the day with three or more goals, led by Rice's four. Vittands, Collins, and Tatro each had three, while Jimmy Trahan (Reading, Mass.had two. 
  • Ryan Cohen (Bedford, Mass.) earned the win with 18 saves in 60:00 of action.
  • Brandon Mestres led the Dolphins offense with two goals for the visitors. 
  • Max Mills earned the loss for Mt. St. Vincent after making 11 saves in 60:00.
  • Salem extended its win streak over Mt. St. Vincent to two.
  • The last time the Vikings notched a win streak of three or more was last season, when they won four in a row.
