Plymouth State Posts 15-9 Win Against Salem State

SALEM, Mass. –- Brady Hunt had four goals and 17 groundballs and Crosby Fay had three scores to lift Plymouth State past Salem State 15-9 at Alumni Field on Wednesday evening. The Panthers raise their record to 7-4 and 3-2 in the Little East. The Vikings are now 7-6 and 1-5.   

Ryan Collins finished with a goal and four assists for the Panthers. Grady Smith led Salem State with three goals and a pair of assists while Connor VittandsLandon Rice and Fisher Gadbois each had two goals.       

How it Happened

  • Grady Smith connected with Rice for the game's first goal at 10:57 of the first. Fay started a run of four straight goals to close the period as Plymouth State took a 4-1 into the second. 
  • Ryan Jones scored the Panthers' fifth unanswered goal on a man-up to make it a four-goal game. Grady Smith and Gadbois scored for Salem State to make it a 6-3 game before the Panthers closed the period with scores from Shea Clark and Hunt for an 8-3 Plymouth State lead.
  • Vittands second goal of the third cut the deficit to 10-5 with 5:41 remaining before Grady Smith and Fay traded goals to end the period, making the score 11-6.
  • Hunt's third goal of the game gave the Panthers a 12-6 advantage to start the fourth. However, Grady Smith and Gadbois added back-to-back scores to draw Salem State to within four, but Ryan Jones pushed the lead back to five goals with a score at the 6:04 mark. Matt Miner and Rice exchanged goals in the final minutes before Hunt capped his night with a behind the back goal, making the final 15-9.
  • Ethan Schena (7-4) picked up the win with 11 saves.
  • Despite the loss, Damian Biersteker (5-5) played well in net for Salem State, stopping 14 shots. 

Salem State goes to West Conn this Saturday for a 1:00 pm game.
