FITCHBURG, Mass. -- Salem State traveled to Fitchburg State for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) game at the Wallace Civic Center on Saturday. The Falcons hosted the game in honor of Jake Thibeault with all proceeds going to the Thibeault Family Rehab Trust.
Salem State jumped on top early and turned three first period goals into a 5-2 win in improving to 13-6 on the season to go with a 9-4 MASCAC mark. The Falcons are now 9-10-1 and 5-7-1.
How it Happened:
- Keagan O'Donoghue picked up point number 19 on the season with his eighth goal of the year at 4:07 of the first.
- James Tatro extended the lead to 2-0 later in the period, tying for the team lead with his eighth goal.
- Luke Day made it 3-0 in favor of the Vikings at 15:37.
- Hunter Dunn cut the deficit for Fitchburg State at 4:49 of the second.
- Zach Dill's score extended the lead to 5-1 in the final 10 minutes of the third before Marcus Macchioni capped the scoring for the Falcons with a goal at 18:59.
Inside the Numbers:
- Will Nepveu picked up his twelfth win (12-5) making 18-of-20 saves.
- Frederick Soderberg (7-8-1) took the loss stopping 12-of-15 shots before giving way to Max Macchioni in the third, who made 15 saves while allowing two goals.
- Salem State outshot Fitchburg State 32-20.
- Landyn Greatorex finished with two assists.
