Tatro's Hat-Trick Lifts Salem State Past Rivier

NASHUA, N.H. -- James Tatro scored twice in the first period and earned the hat-trick with a third period goal to lift Salem State past conference foe Rivier, 6-2 on Saturday afternoon at Conway Arena. The Vikings improve to 2-3 and 2-1 in the MASCAC. The Raiders are now 2-1 and 0-1 in conference. 

How it Happened:

  • Tatro opened the scoring at the 15:57 mark of the first, giving Salem State a 1-0 lead.  
  • Shane Taddia made it 2-0 less than a minute later, scoring from just inside the blue line for his first collegiate goal.  
  • Tatro added his second of the game just over a minute later as the Vikings scored three times in 89 seconds to take a commanding 3-0 first period advantage. 
  • The Vikings picked up right where they left off in the first period as Luke Day poked in a rebound for Salem State's fourth unanswered goal early in the second.
  • Jon Tavella netted the first goal for Rivier in the second period as the Vikings carried a 4-1 lead into the third.
  • Nicolas Paolucci cut the deficit in half early in the third period for Rivier, but Tatro found the net for the third time at the 17:05 mark.
  • Taddia added his second score of the contest in the final minute with an empty net to give Salem State a 6-2 victory.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Will Nepveu made 33-of-35 saves for the Vikings.
  • Luke Newell stopped 18-of-23 shots for the Raiders.
  •  Taddia had two goals for Salem State while Davis Kinne added a pair of assists.
