Fitchburg State Clips Salem State 2-1

SALEM, Mass. -- Isaiah McKinney scored midway through the third period, breaking a 1-1 tie as Fitchburg State remained unbeaten with a hard-fought, 2-1 victory over Salem State in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) men's hockey action on Thursday at Rockett Arena. The Falcons go to 4-0 and 1-0 in the MASCAC while the Vikings now stand at 1-3 and 1-1 in conference. 

How it Happened:

  • Fitchburg State opened the scoring as Trenton Skaggs setup Michael Imala for a power play goal at 3:44 of the first.  
  • The Vikings answered 10 minutes later as Keagan O'Donoghue slipped the puck past goalie Frederick Soderberg off a three-man rush. Landyn Greatorex & James Tatro were credited with the assists.   
  • McKinney found a loose puck just inside the blue line and lined a shot past goalie Will Nepveu for a 2-1 Falcons' lead 9:43 into the third period that proved to be the game-winner. 

Inside the Numbers:

  • Soderberg (4-0) stopped 32-of-33 shots in the win.
  • Nepveu (1-2) made 43-of-45 saves for the Vikings.
  • Skaggs finished with two assists for Fitchburg State
  • Salem State's Luke Day was 14-of-17 (.824%) on faceoff's.
