Salem State Tri-Meet Results
SALEM, Mass. -- Salem State hosted Vermont -Johnson and Dean in a tri-meet match at Twohig Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon. The Viking lost the opener in three sets, 25-20, 25-21, 25-20 before losing their second match, 25-23, 25-18, 17-25, 25-14. Salem State is now 2-9 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Vermont-Johnson)

Max Ludlow registered five kills in set one to lead Vermont-Johnson. The Badgers and Vikings battled through five lead changes and 11 ties. Trailing 14-11, Vermont-Johnson went on a 6-1 run to take a 17-15 lead. Back-to-back kills by Delaney Gross pushed the lead to 21-18 as the Badgers scored-four-of-the-final five points to earn a 25-20 victory.
- Vermont-Johnson held a 10-3 lead in set two before a service ace by Keira Doherty drew the Vikings to within three, 11-8. However, the Badgers quickly established control, taking a 20-13 lead following an ace by Gross. A pair of attack errors and set errors helped the Badgers to a 25-21 set two win.

Both teams struggled offensively in set three, leading to a closely played set, as the Badgers erased an early 6-1 deficit. A kill by Sasha Khomutetsky tied the set for Vermont-Johnson, 18-18 before Khomutetsky gave the Badgers the lead for good on the next play with an ace as they pulled away for a 25-20 win.

Ludlow led all players with eight kills and added 10 digs for Vermont Johnson. Tamika Husbands had a match-high 13 digs for Vermont-Johnson.

Presley Shairs had seven kills for Salem State while Celia Carbone had seven assists and six digs.

Gracie Dailey produced a match-high 15 digs for the Vikings.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Dean)

Dean held off Salem State is a close first set after the Vikings opened up the set on a 5-1 run. Multiple attack errors and an ace by Maddy Seymour gave Dean a 9-7 lead. The teams were tied four times before a 6-2 run gave the Bulldogs a 20-16 lead. A kill by Bella Coccia put Salem State within striking distance, 23-21, but Maddy Seymour ended the set with her fifth kill.
- The Bulldogs outhit Salem State .310 to .226 in set two to take a 2-0 lead. Dean broke open a close contest as a kill by Emily Ball gave them some breathing room, 16-11. Leading 24-18, Ball clinched the set with a kill.

The Vikings rallied for a set three win, jumping out to an insurmountable 12-4 lead following an attack error by Seymour. Back-to-back kills by Coccia gave the Vikings a 24-15 advantage, before going on to win by eight, 25-17.
- The Bulldogs built a 10-4 early lead. Consecutive attack errors helped Salem State pull to within 11-9, but a 7-3 run by Dean, which took advantage of poor hitting by the Vikings, quickly regained the momentum for the Bulldogs. Two more kills by Ball made the score 21-13 as Dean went on to win by nine.

Seymour topped Dean with nine kills. Anabella Driscoll had a match-high 31 assists and Skylar Raskevitz chipped in with 21 digs.

Shairs and Haley Philips combined for 20 kills and 18 digs for Salem State. Kailey Roche had a team-high 17 digs for the Vikings.

Celia Carbone finished with 15 assists and 12 digs.
