QUINCY, Mass. - Eastern Nazarene took on Salem State in the final contest of 2011 for both teams. The Lions and the Vikings met earlier in the season at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational Tournament, with ENC sweeping the contest 3-0. The Lions managed to defeat the Vikings 3-0 once again in a hard fought match that was close throughout (27-25, 26-24 and 27-25).
Salem State senior Rachel Murphy lead all players with 15 digs. Junior teammates Angelica Gonzalez and MacKenzie Carpenter contributed 14 and 13 digs, respectively. The Vikings’ senior setter Jazmin Barrows recorded a team-high 24 assists in the match. Sophomore Jazmin Santos led SSU’s attack with nine kills and Murphy was second with seven.
Jenkins tallied a match-high 14 kills to go along with her seven digs, two assists and two service aces. Clinkscale put forth strong offensive performance with 12 kills of her own and three assists. Freshman Kori Sorensen led the Lions with 10 digs in the contest and classmate Gina Anderson garnered nine digs and three service aces. Tuiava lead all players with 25 assists.
Eastern Nazarene finishes the season at 11-17 overall and 2-6 in the Commonwealth Coast Conference. Salem State’s record is finalized at 3-17 overall and 1-5 in MASCAC play.
