THE LEAD— For the fifth-straight game, the Salem State University women's soccer team has shut out its opponent thanks to a 2-0 win over Anna Maria College Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the opening moments, neither side would let the other grab any momentum. However, at 18:46, Jenna Mitza (Tyngsboro, Mass.) broke the scoreless tie after sending home her shot past AMCATS goalie, Kortney Clark.
  • From then on, the Salem defense held strong as the squad did not allow another shot the rest of the way and took its 1-0 lead into the half.
  • Anna Maria had a chance to even the contest early in the second at 54:27, but thanks to Salem goalie Ava Guyer (East Granby, Conn.) , she made the clutch save to keep the Salem lead intact.
  • Shortly after at 58:24, Krysta Zamejtis (Danvers, Mass.) took advantage of an Anna Maria foul inside the goalie box and buried her penalty kick to make it 2-0.
  • Just like the remainder of the first half, the Blue and Orange defense made sure the AMCATS would not get many scoring chances as the squad allowed just two shots on net and Guyer turned away each one, resulting in a 2-0 MASCAC win.
