Agno and Guyer Pick Up MASCAC Weekly Awards
SALEM, Mass. - The Salem State Women's Soccer team saw both Ava Guyer (East Granby, Conn.) and Samantha Agno (Salem, Mass.) take home weekly MASCAC awards. Guyer was named the Defensive Player of the Week, while Agno was the MASCAC Rookie of the Week as announced by the conference earlier today.
Guyer earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after she helped the Vikings go 2-0 last week, which included wins against Keene State (1-0) and Mass. Maritime (4-0). In the win against the Owls, she made a season-high eight stops. Against the Bucaneers, Guyer finished the day with four saves. She currently is tied for first in save percentage (1.000) and goals allowed (zero). For Guyer, Monday's Defensive Player of the Week honor is the second of her career.
Agno also played a key role in Salem's 2-0 week as the midfielder netted her first career goal in last Saturday's 4-0 win versus Mass. Maritime. Her goal at the time helped put the Vikings up 3-0 before halftime.
Coming up for the Vikings this week, the squad returns to action on Thursday, September 11, versus Colby Sawyer at 7:00 p.m. On Saturday, the squad wraps up its homestand, taking on Anna Maria College at noon.
