Vikings Fall Short in Keene

KEENE, N.H. – Salem State women's soccer began their three-game road trip tonight, facing off against the Owls of Keene State University in a non-conference matchup. A lone goal in the first half ultimately decided the match as the Owls took the 1-0 victory over the Vikings, dropping Salem to 4-8-2 on the season.

How it Happened:

  • Ava Guyer (East Granby, Conn.) turned away the Owls opening three attempts before Bryn Dickinson (Quaker Hill, Conn.) laced a low ball to the left corner to give her squad the 1-0 tilt after 17 minutes.
  • The Owls controlled the rest of the half but couldn't extend their lead, as Ava Guyer made a pair of saves to keep her team's deficit at one to head into the break.
  • Keene State held possession for most of the second half, attempting 11 shots compared to Salem State's three. However, Ava Guyer and the Vikings' defense held strong, preventing the Owls from capitalizing on their chances.
  • With just under three minutes left, the Vikings had a chance to equalize when Anna Frost (Ada, Mich.) connected on a free kick from Sydney Durkin (Dracut, Mass.) but Keene State's goalie made a crucial save that solidified the Owls' 1-0 victory over the Vikings.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Ava Guyer made six saves in tonight's effort.
  • In their last three meetings, the Vikings have limited the Owls to just one goal.
