Late Goal Lifts Leopards Over Vikings

SALEM, Mass. – Salem State women's soccer welcomed the Leopards from Wentworth Institute of Technology to Alumni Field for a non-conference bout, where a late goal boosted the Leopards to the 2-1 victory over the Vikings.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

• The Leopards' offense came out of the gates firing but Ava Guyer's (East Granby, Conn.) quick reactions and a bit of assistance from the crossbar kept the game scoreless.  
• Anna Latta (Southbury, Conn.) broke open the scoring in the 21^st minute when a low corner strike gave the Vikings the 1-0 lead.
• In the final minute of the first half, Lily Carlson (New Braintree, Mass.) scored off a cross into the box, tying the game 1-1 to head into the break.
• After a relatively quiet second half, Jenny Montville (Plainville, Mass.) netted the decider in the 83^rd minute to give the Leopards the 2-1 victory over the Vikings.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

• Anna Latta notched her first goal of the season in this afternoon's effort.
• Ava Guyer turned away a season-high 11 shots.
• Both of Salem's games this week were against Conference of New England foes (Nichols, Wentworth).

UP NEXT:

The Vikings are off until Saturday, September 21^st when they travel to Fitchburg State University to take on the Falcons for their first Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference matchup of the season. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m.
