THE LEAD:
Using a balanced offensive effort and steady defensive play, the Salem State Vikings secured a 12–7 win over the UMass Boston Beacons in non-conference play.  

The teams battled evenly to open the contest as both offenses traded goals in the first quarter. Each side found the net twice during the opening frame, leaving the game tied 2–2 after the first fifteen minutes.

The Vikings began to create separation in the second quarter, using a balanced offensive attack while tightening up defensively. The Vikings scored three times in the period and limited the Beacons to just one goal, allowing the Vikings to take a 5–3 lead into halftime.

The Vikings continued to build momentum coming out of the break. The Vikings would add four goals in the third quarter while holding the Beacons to two, stretching the advantage to 9–5 heading into the final frame.

In the fourth quarter, the Vikings kept the pressure on offensively, adding three more goals while their defense and strong play in net helped contain the Beacons' attack. The Beacons did manage two late scores, but the Vikings maintained control down the stretch to secure the 12–7 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The opening quarter featured a tightly contested battle as both teams traded goals early. The Vikings struck first, but the Beacons responded quickly, keeping pace throughout the period. Each side found the net twice, and the first quarter ended tied at 2–2.

The Vikings began to take control in the second quarter, turning up the offensive pressure while tightening up defensively. The Vikings scored three times in the frame while limiting UMass Boston to just one goal. With strong midfield play and steady possession, Salem State carried a 5–3 lead into halftime.

Coming out of the half, the Vikings came out strong and continued to push the offensive momentum. The Vikings would add four goals in the third quarter, capitalizing on several scoring opportunities. Despite the Beacons battling back with two goals of their own, the Vikings maintained their momentum and stretched their lead to 9–5 heading into the final quarter.

In the fourth, Salem State's offense stayed aggressive, adding three more goals to keep the Beacons trailing. The Beacons would manage two late scores, but the Vikings' defense and strong play in net prevented any comeback attempt. The Vikings would close out the game with a 12–7 victory
