In a dominant effort to wrap up the regular season, the Salem State Vikings struck early and controlled the pace throughout, using scoring and standout goaltending to power past the Framingham State Rams, 5–1, in their final regular-season game.
HOW IT HAPPENED
In their final regular-season conference matchup, the Salem State University Vikings delivered a strong performance on securing the win over the Framingham State University Rams with a decisive 5–1 victory.
Salem State wasted no time setting the tone in the opening period. At 3:40, Halle Greenleaf opened the scoring off a feed from Aislinn Bennett, giving the Vikings an early 1–0 lead. The Rams pushed back with several quality chances, but the Vikings' defense and strong goaltending from Delaney Cox kept the Rams off the board. Late in the period, Salem State struck again at 17:35 to double the lead. In a fast-paced, back-and-forth first period, the Vikings capitalized on their opportunities and headed into the locker room ahead of the Rams, 2–0.
The Vikings came out strong once again in the second period. Just 3:51 in, Ginger Osgood extended the lead with Mallory Albanese earning the assist. The Vikings would remain strong applying consistent offensive pressure while limiting the Rams offensive opportunities. At 16:55, Isabelle Besser added another goal, set up by Aislinn Bennett, pushing the lead to 4–0. Although Framingham State generated a handful of opportunities, Delaney Cox stood tall, keeping the Rams off the scoreboard through two periods.
Salem State would come out strong right away in the third period at 1:26, Ginger Osgood netted her second goal of the night, finishing a strong sequence from Mallory Albanese and Halle Greenleaf to make it 5–0. The Vikings remained sharp in all three zones, combining strong defense with relentless offensive pressure. The Rams would manage to capitalize on a powerplay with about a minute left in the third period to get their first goal of the night. It would be the Vikings of Salem State to deliver a strong performance and secure the 5-1 win over the Rams of Framingham State.
