THE LEAD—  The Salem State women's ice hockey dropped a non-conference matchup with Salve Regina, 3-1, Friday evening at Rockett Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a scoreless first period, the Seahawks broke the scoreless draw nearly halfway through the second at 10:49 courtesy of Reese Pereira off a behind-the-back pass from Ashtyn Bringardner. Later in the frame (19:55), Salve tacked on another goal to push its lead to two off the stick of Arielle Sushinski.
  • Shortly into the third (06:00), the visitors continued their momentum from the second and pushed the lead to three, thanks to Riley Esposito. However, the Vikes answered back thanks to a score from Olivia Tednes (Elk Grove Village, Ill.) at 12:22. Aislinn Bennett (Milford, Mass.) swung the puck over to an open Lauren Bosworth (Ashland, Mass.), who put a pass on net that allowed Tednes to put her shot past the Salve goaltender.
  • For the remainder of the frame, Salem had multiple looks as the squad got off a couple of shots, but the Salve defense held firm, and the Seahawks came away with a 3-1 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Tednes' score was her first of the 2025 season.
  • Bosworth and Bennett's assists are each their first of the season. Meanwhile, Bosworth's is the first of her collegiate career.
  • Delaney Cox (Spencer, Mass.) got the start in net for Salem and finished the night with 33 saves.
  • Salve Regina's goalie, Sydney Baxter, ended the contest with 11 stops.
  • Friday's matchup marked the sixth time the schools have played each other. Currently, Salve has the overall series lead, 4-1-1.
