Vermont State Castleton Defeats Salem State 3-1

RUTLAND, Vt. – Three third period goals by Vermont State Castleton pushed the Spartans past Salem State by a score of 3-1 on Friday evening at Spartan Arena in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) action. The Spartans are now 8-11-1 and 4-8-1 in conference while the Vikings slide to 6-14 and 2-11 in the NEHC.

How it Happened:

  • Megan Azzato's fourth goal of the year gave Salem State a 1-0 lead at 7:47 of the first period.
  • Delaney Cox helped keep the one-goal lead stand up as she saved all 30 shots over the first two periods.
  • Moa Carlsson put Vermont State Castleton on the board just :47 seconds into the third period. 
  • Later, Meg Aiken made it a 2-1 game at 9:47 of the third.
  • Carlsson iced the game with her second score of the period as the Spartans skated away with a 3-1 victory.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Victoria Bakopanos (6-9-1) earned the win with 22 saves.
  • Cox (3-10) finished with 38 saves. 
  • Salem State ended the game 0-for-3 on the power play.
