Huskies Double Up Vikings 4-2

GORHAM, Maine -- Southern Maine jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held off a late Salem State rally to skate to a 4-2 New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) win on Friday afternoon in Gorham. The Huskies up their record to 8-6-2 and 5-2-2 in the NEHC. The Vikings slide to 4-12 and 0-9.        

How it Happened:

  • Saige Macleod netted a shorthanded goal at 14:39 of the first for a 1-0 Southern Maine lead. 
  • Ally Stymiest increased the lead to 2-0 less than three minutes later as the Huskies took a two-goal lead into the second.
  • Joely Power added a power play goal with just over two minutes left in the second making it 3-0 in favor of Southern Maine.
  • Mallory Albanese put Salem State on the board just :29 seconds into the third to cut the deficit to 3-1.
  • Brooke Dineen then drew the Vikings to within a score midway through the third.
  • However, Ally Stymiest gave the Huskies a two-goal cushion with a goal with less than five minutes remaining.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Ellie Fredenburg (2-0) earned the win stopping 13-of-15 shots. 
  • Cox (1-8) took the loss, stopping 27-of-31 shots. 
  • Albanese finished with a goal and assist. 
  • Makenzie Woodford had two assists for Southern Maine.
