SALEM, Mass. – Salem State opened the 2024-25 women's ice hockey season with a 4-2 victory over future MASCAC opponent Framingham State on Tuesday evening at Rockett Arena. Isabelle Besser scored a pair of power play goals to help the Vikings improve to 1-0 on the season. The Rams are now 0-3.
How it Happened:
- Besser netted the only goal of the first period with the first of her two power play goals coming at the 2:34 mark.
- Besser extended the lead to 2-0 midway through the second as Salem State again took advantage of being a man-up. However, Ceira Garrity took a turnover and her backhander drew Framingham State to within a goal with just over six minutes remaining in the period.
- Aislinn Bennett wristed in a shot 5:56 into the third to give the home team a two-goal advantage, but Petra Cernicek found some space in the slot and brought the Rams to within 3-2.
- Salem State goalie Samantha Jaworski was challenged twice in the final minutes, but denied the Rams both times to keep Salem State in front. Mallory Albanese iced the game with her first career goal at the 17:57 mark as Salem State went on to win 4-2.
Inside the Numbers:
- Jaworski made 16 saves in the win for the Vikings.
- Framingham State starter Anna McGinty, took the loss, making 18 first period saves before giving way to Brigid Milligan and Lila Chamoun, who combined for 27 saves.
