Henniker, N.H. – Two third period goals helped New England College to a 3-2 NEHC victory over Salem State at Clement Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Pilgrims improve to 3-6-1 and 1-4-1 in conference while the Vikings slip to 2-7-1 and 1-6-1.
Jessica Robert gave Salem State a 1-0 lead at 12:32 of the first as Hannah Aveni stopped all eight New England College shots in the opening period. Mikayla Vincent tied the game for the Pilgrims with a power-play goal at 4:23 of the second
Gabrielle Iwinski and Jordan Pond scored consecutive goals for New England College in the third to give the Pilgrims to a 3-1 lead. Makayla McGrath added an unassisted goal at 18:57 for Salem State, but it was too late as New England College held on for a 3-2 victory. Thea Joerö made 20 saves in the win while Aveni stopped 38 shots for the Vikings. New England College outshot Salem State 41-22.
