Goncalves Earns NEWBA First Team of the Week Honors

SALEM, Mass. - For the fourth time this season, Salem State women's basketball senior Ernidia Goncalves (Everett, Mass.) earned New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) a spot on the weekly honor roll. Tuesday's recognition is her first time on the NEWBA First Team of the Week, while she has earned spots on the NEWBA Second Team of the Week three times this year.

Last week, in her two Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) playoff games, she helped the Vikings go 1-1 while posting a double-double in both contests. Last week, she averaged 16.5 points per game and grabbed an average of 12.5 rebounds per game while shooting 42 percent from the field. In last Wednesday's 64-61 thriller over Worcester State, Goncalves finished the contest with 12 points and a team-high 11 boards for her 15th double-double of the season. Despite a 60-56 loss to eventual MASCAC champion Framingham State last Friday, Goncalves left it all on the floor, finishing with 21 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for her 16th double-double on the year and 56th of her career.

Salem ended the year with a 13-14 record. The Blue and Orange have won 10-plus games in four-straight seasons and will look to continue the streak into next season.
