Softball Falls To Trailblazers In First Round Of MASCAC Tournament

THE BASICS

THE LEAD 

It would be the first round of the MASCAC tournament, the matchup would be the MCLA Trailblazers against the Salem State Vikings. The Trailblazers used a momentum burst in the top of the seventh inning to take control of the final inning and secure the 6-3 win over the Vikings. In the game Salem State battled throughout, holding the Trailblazers in check by rally back from the early lead the Trailblazers would take in the first inning and would retake the lead in the bottom of the first inning but it would be the Trailblazers to retake their lead and cut the deficit late, and it would ultimately be the Vikings to fall to the Trailblazers in the game as the Vikings were not able to cut the Trailblazers deficit, falling to MCLA 6-3. 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

In the game the Salem State Vikings would battle in a tightly contested MASCAC First round matchup but would fall short, 6-3, to the MCLA Trailblazers. 

The Trailblazers broke through in the top of the first inning with one run, but the Vikings would come out just as strong, and would use their powerful hitting and strong momentum scoring 3 runs in the bottom of the first inning to take the early lead over MCLA 3-1. 

It would be a clean next three innings with no runs scored on either side with both teams having strong defense in the field and on the pitching circle. The game would be heading into the top of the fifth inning with the Vikings on top 3-1. 

It would be the Trailblazers to find their offense again and starting the momentum on their side scoring three runs in the top of the fifth inning to retake their early lead from the first they would be leading the Vikings 4-3 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning. 

It would be the Vikings to try and find their momentum and their hits at the plate but were unable to do so and were not able to score any runs despite the hits they would have they were unbale to get runs across the plate in the fifth and sixth inning. 

It would be the Trailblazers to score two insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning for their final at bat, to head into the bottom of the seventh inning on top of the Vikings 6-3. 

The Vikings would need some offense and runs heading into their final at-bat. Despite continued chances, Salem State was unable to bring any runs across the plate, as the Trailblazers held on to secure the win. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS 

• Ellie Kleinheinz would get a triple against the Trailblazers. 
• Tara Perryman , Abigail LaClair , Ellie Kleinheinz would all collect RBIs in the matchup against the Trailblazers. 
• Alanis Toledano would have two hits against the Trailblazers leading the Vikings offense in the game.
