THE LEAD
The Vikings swept a MASCAC doubleheader against the AMCATS, earning an 8-3 win in game one before closing out the day with an 8-0 run-rule victory in five innings in game two. After breaking through in the middle innings of the opener to take control, the Vikings carried that momentum into game two with a fast start at the plate and dominant pitching, keeping the AMCATS off the scoreboard to secure the sweep.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
the Vikings hosted the AMCATS for a MASCAC conference doubleheader, celebrating their seniors while delivering a strong performance in game one.
Both teams came out locked in defensively, as the first two innings passed without a run on either side. The Vikings broke through in the third inning, sparking the offense and building momentum that would carry throughout the game.
In the fourth inning, the Vikings put together a big rally, plating four runs to take control. Both teams would add a run in the inning, but the Vikings maintained a solid lead. They continued to build on their advantage with insurance runs across the fifth and sixth innings, extending the lead to 8-1 while keeping the AMCATS quiet at the plate during those frames.
The Vikings' defense remained sharp behind a strong outing in the circle, limiting opportunities and keeping the game in hand. The AMCATS made a late push in the seventh inning, scoring two runs, but it wasn't enough to overcome the deficit.
The Vikings secured the 8-3 MASCAC victory in game one against the AMCATS.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)
- Samantha Gaona- Sullivan, Alanis Toledano and Tara Perryman would all go 4 for 3 at the plate against the AMCATS in game one.
- Tara Perryman , Allison Frost would both have stolen bases in game one against the AMCATS.
- The Vikings would tally 11 hits in game one against Anna Maria
- Gracie Martineau would get the win in game one against the AMCATS pitching 7 innings striking out 5 and only allowing one hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
Following the Senior Day ceremony between games, the Vikings returned to the field and delivered a dominant performance against the AMCATS to complete the doubleheader sweep.
The Vikings wasted no time getting on the board, erupting for four runs in the bottom of the first inning to take early control. They added another run in the second to extend the lead to 5-0, putting immediate pressure on the AMCATS.
Both teams were held scoreless through the third and fourth innings, as the Vikings' defense and pitching continued to shine, keeping the AMCATS off the scoreboard and limiting any offensive chances.
The Vikings sealed the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, adding three more runs to extend the lead to 8-0 in the fifth inning and secure the victory .
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)
- Alanis Toledano , Tara Perryman and Paige Souza would all tally doubles in game two against the AMCATS.
- Allison Frost would have a stolen base in game two against the AMCATS.
- Allison Frost and Tara Perryman would both go 3 for 2 at the plate for the Vikings in game two.
- Tara Perryman and Paige Souza would both lead the Vikings in RBIs in game two with 2.
- Charlie Benesh would secure the win in game two on the mound pitching 4 innings, striking out 4, allowing no runs and only giving up 2 hits.
- Alanis Toledano would secure the save in game two for the Vikings pitching one inning, allowing no runs, and just one hit.
