THE LEAD

The Salem State Vikings competed in a non-conference doubleheader against the Southern Maine Huskies. The Vikings battled in a tightly contested game one, using strong defensive play and a late push at the plate before narrowly falling, 2–1. Salem State carried that fight into game two, getting early offense and continuing to compete throughout, but the Huskies used a big inning and consistent hitting to secure the 24–3 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)

The non-conference matchup between the Southern Maine Huskies softball and the Salem State Vikings softball was defined by strong defensive play on both sides, as each team worked to keep runs off the board and limit scoring opportunities.

Through the first three innings, neither team was able to break through, with both defenses holding firm and preventing any runs from crossing the plate. It wasn't until the bottom of the fourth inning that the Huskies found their momentum, pushing across two runs to take the early 2–0 lead and recording the first scoring of the game.

The Vikings remained resilient and continued to battle, but the Huskies' defense held steady into the late innings. In the top of the seventh, Salem State mounted a comeback effort, scoring their first run of the game and looking to build momentum to tie it. However, the rally ultimately fell short. The Huskies held on defensively to secure a 2–1 victory over the Vikings.
