THE LEAD
The Salem State University Vikings swept a non-conference doubleheader against the Lesley University Lynx. HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
The Salem State Vikings delivered a dominant performance in a non-conference matchup overwhelming the Lesley University Lynx with a decisive 26–0 victory.
The Vikings' offense wasted no time getting started, erupting for six runs in the opening inning behind a flurry of hits and capitalizing on early defensive mistakes by the Lynx. Salem State kept the pressure on in the second, adding three more runs to build a lead.
The game broke wide open in the third inning, as the Vikings plated eight runs, stringing together timely hitting and continuing to take advantage of Lesley's struggles in the field. The Lynx came out strong to start, plating three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead. The Vikings responded immediately in the bottom half, erupting for nine runs behind disciplined at-bats and timely hitting to quickly shift the momentum.
Salem State carried that energy into the second inning, tightening up defensively while adding four more runs to extend its advantage. Lesley continued to battle at the plate, scoring two runs in the third inning, but the Vikings answered once again with a seven-run fourth inning to create even more separation.
The Lynx added one more run in the fifth inning, but Salem State maintained control on both sides of the ball down the stretch.
The Vikings dominated offensively, totaling 12 hits while capitalizing on Lesley's defensive errors, securing a 20–6 win to complete the sweep.
