THE LEAD
The Salem State University Vikings swept a doubleheader against the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers. Salem State powered through a high-scoring game one, using dominant middle innings and steady defense to secure a 12–6 victory. The Vikings carried that momentum into game two, combining timely hitting, consistent run production, and strong play in the field to complete the sweep with an 8–2 win.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
The Salem State University Vikings powered past the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers in a high-scoring matchup, securing a 12–6 victory after an dominate offensive showing.
The Buccaneers struck first, taking advantage of early opportunities to jump out to a 3–0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. However, the Vikings wasted no time responding. Salem State's bats came alive in the top of the second inning, erupting for seven runs in a dominant frame to take the lead over the Buccaneers 7-3.
Mass Maritime would, answer right back to the Vikings scoring two runs of their own in the bottom of the second to cut the deficit to 7–5. Still, the Vikings maintained control, delivering another big inning at the plate in the top of the third. Salem State added four more runs to extend their lead to 11–5 heading into the later innings.
Defensively, the Vikings tightened up, holding the Buccaneers to limited scoring chances. Mass Maritime managed to plate one run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 11–6, but both teams settled in defensively through the fifth but it would be the Vikings to get the offense going again at the plate scoring two more runs in the sixth inning, to take the lead 13-6 over the Buccaneers.
In the top of the seventh, Salem State added an insurance run to push the lead to 14–6. The Vikings then closed the door in the bottom half, keeping the Buccaneers off the scoreboard to seal the victory 14-6.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)
- Abigail LaClair would score a double against the Buccaneers to help secure the 12-6 win.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
The Salem State University Vikings completed a strong showing in game two with an 8–2 win over the Massachusetts Maritime Academy Buccaneers.
Salem State got off to a quick start, pushing across the game's first run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1–0 lead. The Buccaneers answered in the bottom of the second, capitalizing at the plate with two runs to move in front 2–1.
The Vikings quickly regained control in the top of the third inning, where the Vikings sparked another offensive surge as Salem State would plate four more runs in the frame, flipping the score to 5–2 and reclaiming the momentum.
From there, the Vikings took over on both sides of the ball. Their defense held firm, limiting the Buccaneers to just those two runs while shutting down any further scoring threats. Meanwhile, Salem State continued to add on, scoring one run in each of the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to steadily build their lead.
With consistent offense and strong defensive play down the stretch, the Vikings closed out the 8–2 victory to secure the game two win over the Buccaneers.
