THE LEAD
The Salem State softball team played its final set of double header games on the Florida trip for spring break the Vikings would split the day. Salem State would fall to MIT in game one but would build resilience and bounce right back and win 7-2 over Westminster (MO) in dominant fashion.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
The Salem State Vikings softball took on the MIT Engineers softball in game one of final day in Florida. The Engineers powered their offense early, scoring multiple runs while holding the Vikings off the scoreboard and bases and allowing just one hit.
Salem State showed resilience in the fifth inning, tightening up defensively and preventing further damage, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome. The Vikings ultimately fell to MIT, 19–0, in five innings.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)
- Alanis Toledano would record the only hit for the Vikings against the Beavers of MIT.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
The Salem State Vikings softball bounced back in a big way in game two, dominating the Westminster College (MO) Blue Jays softball. Salem State set the tone early, capitalizing on timely hitting to score three runs in the top of the first inning. Westminster answered with a run in the home half, but the Vikings quickly regained control. A four-run third inning, fueled by consistent contact and aggressive baserunning, extended the lead to 7–1. The Blue Jays picked up another run in the bottom of the third, but the Vikings locked in defensively from there. Backed by a strong pitching performance, Salem State kept Westminster off the board through the middle innings. Westminster attempted a late rally in the seventh, scoring one run, but the Vikings' defense and pitching shut the door to secure a 7–3 victory.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 2)
- Tara Perryman would collect a double in the win against the Blue Jays of Westminster (MO).
- Tara Perryman, Giana Johanson, Ellie Kleinheinz, and Paige Souza would all have RBI's in the win over the Blue Jays.
- Giana Johanson, Katie Sullivan would both have stolen baes against Westminster (MO)
- Allison Frost would collect two stolen bases against the Blue Jays.
- Charlie Benesh would earn the win on the mound for the Vikings against Westminster (MO), striking out 5 in seven complete innings.
- This game would mark the final game in Florida for the Vikings to complete their spring break trip.

The Vikings will be back in action Wednesday March 25th where they look to return home to Salem, MA to take on the Monks of Saint Joseph's of Maine for a double header. Opening pitch is set for 4:00pm.
