HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
The Salem State Vikings came out swinging in Game 1 against the Kalamazoo College Hornets, setting the tone early with a strong first inning at the plate. The Vikings pushed across two quick runs to take an early 2–0 lead.
Kalamazoo answered right back in the bottom half of the inning, finding their rhythm offensively and plating two runs of their own to even things up at 2–2 after one inning of play.
From that point on, however, it was all Salem State. The Vikings' bats came alive in a big way while their defense and pitching completely shut down the Hornets. Salem State broke the game open with three runs in the third inning, then added two more in the fourth to build a comfortable lead.
They put the game out of reach in the sixth inning, erupting for five runs to cap off a dominant performance. With the bats coming alive in a big way and the defense holding Kalamazoo scoreless after the first inning, the Vikings secured a decisive 12–2 victory in six innings.
