Softball Dominates, Sweeps Babson and Plymouth State in Day Three of Florida Trip

THE LEAD
The Salem State softball team played its first doubleheader of the Florida trip in dominant fashion, sweeping both games. Salem State opened with a 3–0 victory over Babson College before closing out the night with a 7–3 win against Plymouth State.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 1)
The Vikings came out in dominant fashion against the Beavers of Babson College, getting the bats going early with a run in the first inning to take a 1–0 lead. The offense continued to produce while the defense remained sharp throughout the game. Salem State's pitcher Alanis Toledano delivered a strong performance in the circle for the Vikings.
The Vikings added insurance runs in the top of the fifth and again in the sixth inning to extend their lead. Strong defense and outstanding pitching silenced the Beavers' bats the rest of the way. In all, a complete effort on both sides of the ball lifted the Vikings to a 3–0 victory over Babson College.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS (GM 1)
- Samantha Gaona-Sullivan and Alanis Toledano would both have doubles against the Beavers of Babson College to help the Vikings secure the 3-0 win.
- Samantha Gaona-Sullivan, Abigail LaClair and Giana Johanson would both collect the three RBI in the win against the Beavers.
- Paige Souza and Abby Richardson would each have a stolen base against the Beavers.
- Alanis Toledano, Abigail LaClair and Abby Richardson would go 3-2 at the plate in the win against the Beavers.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GM 2)
After a fast start from Plymouth State, the Salem State Vikings responded in dominant fashion to secure a 7–3 victory and complete the doubleheader sweep. The Panthers jumped out early, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning to take a quick 3–0 lead.
Salem State answered immediately with its explosive offense, plating two runs to cut the deficit to 3–2 heading into the second inning. The Vikings continued their momentum in the bottom of the second, adding two more runs to take a 4–3 lead they would not relinquish.
From there, Salem State's defense and pitching took control, shutting down the Panthers' bats for the remainder of the game. The Vikings added an insurance run in the third inning and tacked on two more in the sixth to extend their lead.
Behind strong defense, dominant pitching, and consistent production at the plate, Salem State powered past Plymouth State, 7–3.

- Katie Sullivan would hit a triple for the Vikings to help them secure a win over the Panthers.
- Samantha Gaona-Sullivan, Tara Perryman, Abigail LaClair, Alanis Toledano, and Katie Sullivan would all earn one RBI for the Vikings against the Panthers.
- Giana Johanson would lead the Vikings in RBI's against the Panthers with two.
