Late Rally Falls Short as Vikings Drop 5–4 Matchup to Keene State

THE LEAD:
The Salem State University Vikings mounted a late comeback but fell just short in a 5–4 loss to the Keene State College Owls.

Keene State built an early 5–0 lead before the Vikings responded in the bottom of the fourth inning. Salem State rallied for four runs in the frame to cut the deficit to one and bring the game within reach.

Despite the push, the Owls were able to hold off the comeback and secure the 5–4 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Keene State College Owls jumped out to an early lead, scoring five runs over the opening innings to take control of the game and build a 5–0 lead over the Vikings. 

The Salem State University Vikings responded in the bottom of the fourth inning with a strong offensive momentum push. Salem State would have several hits and took advantage of scoring opportunities to plate four runs in the inning, cutting the deficit to 5–4 and shifting the momentum.

Despite the rally, the Owls were able to settle in defensively over the remaining innings but the Vikings continued to push offensively, but the Owls were able to hold off the comeback attempt and secure the 5–4 victory over the Vikings. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Tara Perryman would have three hits and collect three RBI to lead the offense for the Vikings. 
  • Giana Johanson would have a double against the Owls.

The Vikings are back in action tomorrow March 16, 2026 where they look to take on The Blue of Wellesley College for their second set of games in Clermont, FL for spring break. Opening pitch is set for 10:00am.
