Lancers Take Two From Vikings

WORCESTER, Mass. -- Worcester State took two from Salem State in a MASCAC doubleheader rescheduled from 4/26 on Monday afternoon. The Lancers won game one, 8-2 and followed up with an 8-1 victory in game two. Worcester State is now 19-12 on the season and 7-5 in conference. The Vikings go to 16-18 ad 4-8. 

How It Happened

Game 1

Sarah Gosselin threw seven complete in a game one victory. Gosselin allowed two runs -- one earned -- on seven hits with seven strikeouts and a walk. Emma Lanpher was 2-for-4 with a triple, two runs and two RBI. Bella Gasbarro was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI.

Alanis Toledano took the loss throwing 5.1 innings and allowing seven runs on seven hits with four walks. Isabella Perrotti and Tara Perryman each collected two hits apiece.

  • Worcester State scored four runs in the third as Emma Lapoint - RBI single - and Morgan Keefe - two run double - drove in three of the runs. Bella Gasbarro's sacrifice fly made it 4-0. 
  • An error and RBI single by Perrotti made it a 4-2 game in the fourth.
  • Leading 5-2 in the sixth, the Lancers plated three runs after a single to left by Gasbarro and a two-run triple by Lanpher. An RBI groundout by Emma Lapoint made the final 8-2.

Game 2

How It Happened

Peyton Maloney threw a complete game two-hitter, allowing a run on two hits with nine strikeouts. Emma Lapoint was 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

Gracie Martineau earned the loss, giving up eight runs -- three earned -- on seven hits with a strikeout. 

  • The Lancers exploded for seven runs in the third, all with two outs, scoring seven runs on four hits and four Salem State errors. Abigail Koziol singled to score the first run before back-to-back errors made it a 3-0 game. A hit by pitch and error added two more runs, setting up Cali Brouillard's two-run single that extended the lead to 7-0.
  • Alaina Giuliano's RBI groundout put Salem State on the scoreboard in the fifth.   
  • Gasbarro's single to center in the sixth made the final 8-1.
