THE LEAD – The Salem State men's tennis team capped its home portion of the 2026 season with a Little East Conference (LEC) matchup against Bridgewater State, but ended up falling to the Bears, 6-1. Before the contest, the Vikings honored their two seniors on senior day. Salem State and the men's tennis team would like to thank Quentin Wilkins (Hamilton, Mass.) and Michael Makiej (Andover, Mass.) for their dedication to the Salem State men's tennis program throughout their careers!

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bridgewater opened up taking the doubles point by sweeping all three matchups. Wilkins and Mark Wood (Lynn, Mass.), along with the pairing of Ian Ronan (Quincy, Mass.) and Jesse Rubera (Haverhill, Mass.), all pushed their doubles matchups before ultimately falling 6-3. 
  • The Bears continued their momentum into singles action by winning the first two contests. However, Ronan grabbed the Vikings' first point at No. 3 singles with a 6-3, 1-6, 6-3 win. Despite Salem's late push, Bridgewater took the last three matches and ultimately won 6-1. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Ronan has now won his last five singles matches.
  • Bridgewater has now won the last two contests against Salem. However, prior to that, the Vikings had won the previous eight.

Salem has some much-deserved time off before returning to action when the squad travels to Southern Maine on Tuesday, April 21, at 3:30 p.m.
