Southern Maine Clips Salem State
SALEM, Mass. -- Quentin Wilkins remained unbeaten at No.1 singles, but Southern Maine won four-of-six singles matches to defeat Salem State, 5-4 in Little East tennis action at The Central Campus Tennis Courts on Thursday. The Vikings are now 2-3 and 1-3 in conference. The Huskies go to 2-5 and 1-2 in the LEC.
Wilkins raised his record to 5-0, with a 6-4, 6-1 win at first singles over Jaden Parker. Mark Wood grabbed a two-set win at No. 2 singles, winning the first set in an 8-6 tie-breaker and procuring a 6-3 win in the second set. Charlie Bitar outlasted Michael Muttiah, 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 to take No. 6 singles.
Wilkins / Wood picked up another win at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 decision over Parker / Zac Howe while Kevin Merino-Rivas / Lachlan Hall defeated Azam Jiwa / Zach Desmarais, 8-7 (7-2) at No. 2 doubles.
