Three From Men's Soccer Earn MASCAC All-Conference Honors
SALEM, Mass. - The Salem State men's soccer team saw three student-athletes garner Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference honors on Wednesday. Iago De Sousa-Vieira (Medford, Mass.) led the way with a MASCAC All-Conference First Team honor. Meanwhile, Stephane Fevry (Haverhill, Mass.) and Yuniel Sanchez (Gloucester, Mass.) earned spots on the MASCAC All-Conference Second Team.
In his lone season with Salem, De Sousa-Vieira had an impactful year. He ended the season with 17 goals, which was the seventh-best mark in a season in program history. He ended the year on a seven-game scoring streak, which included two playoff goals, and posted two hat tricks this year (Oct. 11 vs. Bridgewater and Oct. 25 vs. MCLA). In contests where he scored, the Vikings were 8-1-4 and he was a two-time MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week this season. In the conference, he ranked within the top five of numerous offensive categories, including goals (second), points (35-second), and shots (63-third). In all of Division III, he is ranked within the top 15 for goals (tied for 13th) and is one of only three MASCAC student-athletes in the top 15 for goals in Division III.
Fevry earned his second career MASCAC All-Conference award with today's announcement. On the year, the sophomore was just one of three Vikings to score at least five goals, finishing with a career-high six. Fevry's strongest game came in a two-goal performance in a 3-2 win versus Gordon College (Sept. 24). In the playoffs, Fevry also potted a goal in the squad's 3-1 quarterfinal win over Anna Maria College. Fevry had a stretch earlier this year where he recorded a point in a game for four straight contests, where the Vikings were 2-1-1. He also set multiple career-highs in his second season with Salem, including points (14), shots (44), shots on goal (27), and shots on goal percentage (.614).
Sanchez's All-Conference honor is the first in his career, and he was a solid contributor to a strong Salem defense all year. He helped anchor a Salem defense that allowed 1.47 goals per game, resulting in a total of 28 goals, which ranked second in the MASCAC. Sanchze and the Vikings defense posted four shutouts on the season, with one of them coming in conference play.
On the year, Salem finished with a 9-4-6 record and a 3-1-4 record in conference play. With their nine wins, the Vikings have now finished with at least five wins every year since 2017. Salem's offense was one of the more high-powered in the conference as the team finished within the top five in numerous offensive categories, including goals (43-third), goals per game (2.26-third), assists (29-third), points (115-third), shots (369-first), and shots per game (19.4-first). Salem also saw 11 different student-athletes score a goal this year.
