THE LEAD—  Thanks to three different goal scorers, the Salem State University Men's Soccer team topped Plymouth State, 3-0, Tuesday evening at Panthers Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Plymouth had multiple chances early in the first to jump ahead at both 3:28 and 21:48, but were turned away each time by Vikings goalie Brady Whitmarsh (Attleboro, Mass.)
  • As the first half went on, both squads played tough defense, but eventually, at 30:02, Salem State would break the scoreless tie. Kaden Yoder (Ashburnham, Mass.) would find the back of the net and make it 1-0, which would remain the score at half.
  • Throughout the second half, it was a defensive battle despite Salem State outshooting Plymouth, 10-4. With neither side being able to find the back of the net for most of the second, the Vikings tacked on another goal at 83:29 when Iago De Sousa-Vieira (Medford, Mass.) sent home his shot.
  • Around five minutes later (88:13), Salem Stated would add another insurance goal to make it 3-0 courtesy of Jadiel Bomfim (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) before ultimately winning, 3-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Bomfirm and De Sousa-Vieira's goals have both tied for the team lead with two apiece.

  • The Vikings also held the adavntage in corner kicks, 4-3.
