Tatro and Cohen Take Home Weekly LEC Awards

LITTLE EAST CONFERENCE OFFICIAL RELEASE

SALEM, Mass. - After a 3-0 week for the Salem State men's lacrosse team, the Vikings saw James Tatro (Byfield, Mass.) earn Little East Conference (LEC) Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week awards. Meanwhile, Ryan Cohen (Bedford, Mass.) was named the Goalie of the Week as announced by the conference earlier this afternoon.

For the third time this season, Tatro garnered Rookie of the Week honors, and this will be his first Offensive Player of the Week recognition. Last week, Tatro and the Vikes earned wins against Husson (16-12) and Thomas (24-8), and a 7-6 league victory over Eastern Connecticut. In the undefeated week, the sophomore tallied 14 goals and one assist for 15 total points while also tying his career-high (six) in the win at Thomas. In the victory at Husson, he found the back of the net five times, and finally, versus Eastern Connecticut, he chipped in three goals. With his strong weekend, he grew the conference lead in goals (33) and goals per game (4.13). In the NCAA, his goals-per-game ranking puts him in the top 10 (seventh).

Cohen earned his first Defensive Player of the Week honors after a strong showing in net last week for the Vikings. He posted a 9.37 goals against average and .581 save percentage with 36 saves on the week. Cohen had nine saves in the 16-12 win over Husson before making 16 stops in the 24-8 win over Thomas. He wrapped up the week with an 11-save effort in Salem State's 7-6 victory over Eastern Connecticut.

The Vikings continue LEC play with a road match-up at Mass. Maritime on Tuesday, April 7, at 7:00 p.m. and then cap off the week hosting Western Connecticut on Saturday, April 11, at 1:00 p.m.
