Keene State Pulls Away For 20-10 Victory

SALEM, Mass. –- Jack Ansart scored seven goals to lead Keene State to a convincing 20-10 victory over Salem State in Little East action at Alumni Field on Friday evening. The Owls even their record at 6-6 and improve to 3-1 in the LEC while the Vikings are now 7-5 and 1-4.

Giacomo Tedone added four goals with an assist and Dylan Seymour had three goals and an assist to lead the Owls. Ty Cougler had nine ground balls and seven caused turnovers while Cole Ricardi corralled 10 ground balls.       

Grady Smith notched four goals and an assist for Salem State while Fisher Gadbois tallied three scores and an assist.

How it Happened

  • Tedone scored just :50 seconds into the opening period, giving Keene State an early 1-0 lead. The Vikings responded with three unanswered goals as Grady Smith scored and back-to-back goals from Gadbois put Salem State in front 3-1. However, the Owls answered with their own three-goal spurt to take a 4-3 lead into the second.
  • Grady Smith and Gadbois added man-up goals to begin the second before the Owls closed the period on a 4-0 run as Ansart accounted for three of the goals, giving Keene State an 8-5 halftime advantage.
  • The Owls exploded for six unanswered goals to begin the third. Dylan Seymour connected for back-to-back scores before Ansart and Tedone notched two apiece, making the score 14-5 in favor of Keene State. Cameron Smith and Grady Smith answered for Salem State, but Ansart, who scored his seventh, and Seymour each added their third goal of the period to extend the advantage to 16-7.  
  • The Owls continued their run onto the fourth, as their sixth unanswered goal made the score 20-7 after Tedone added his fourth of the game. Cameron Collins got one back for Salem State with 2:59 remaining before Grady Smith and Cameron Smith capped the scoring to make the final 20-10.  
  • Cameron Smith (1-0) made one save in the win.
  • Damian Biersteker(5-4) stopped 15 shots in the loss.

Salem State hosts Plymouth State next Wednesday, April 16 @ 7:00 pm.
