UMass Boston Earns Win Over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. --  UMass Boston scored 11 first period goals enroute to a 28-10 win over Salem State on Saturday afternoon at James Cotter Field. The Beacons are now 7-1 and open Little East play 1-0. The Vikings go to 4-2 and 0-1. 

Landon Rice and Grady Smith each tallied three goals while Fisher Gadbois had two.

Matt Hutchings led UMass Boston with five scores and two assists while Matthew Konareski added four goals. Adrian Fielosh and Seth Libby each contributed three goals. 

How it Happened

• The Beacons opened up the first period with 11 unanswered goals with Hutchings and Libby accounting for six of the goals.
• The streak grew to 14 when Carson Meczywor scored at the 12:45 mark of the second period. Smith notched Salem State's first goal of the game before Gadbois added a man-up goal at the 3:44 mark of the second. UMass Boston took a 21-2 lead into halftime. 
• Smith and Fisher Gadbois added goals in the third for the Vikings as the UMass Boston lead grew to 25-4.
• The two teams emptied their benches as the Beacons outscored Salem State 6-3 in the fourth.
• Broden Youngclaus (1-0) earned the win making four saves as UMass Boston used four goalies on the afternoon.
• Damian Biersteker (2-1) made 11 saves in the loss.
• The Beacons owned a 67-27 shots advantage.
