Salem State men's lacrosse granted varsity status

The highly successful men's club lacrosse program has been granted NCAA Division 3 status for the 2008 season.

The Vikings captured the 2007 and 2006 Pioneer Collegiate Lacrosse League (PCLL) playoff championships under the direction of head coach Trevor Eaton of Peabody. The Vikings, who completed the 2007 title season by winning their final ten matches, went unbeaten against PCLL opponents in claiming back-to-back titles.

The 2007 PCLL champions were led by Defensive Player of the Year Gavin Walsh (Lexington). Vikings who were honored as league first team all-stars along with Walsh were Dan Sullivan (Agawam), Torey Nicholson (Andover) and Keith Hardy (Walpole). Second team all-stars included Ross Arnold (Salem), Sal Silva (Lynn), Rob Basile (Bedford) and Chris Andreotes (Natick).

Eaton was voted PCLL Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
