Salem State Gets Past Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Luke Day scored a goal and had an assist as Salem State held off Framingham State, 5-4 for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference victory on Saturday evening at Loring Arena. The Vikings are now 7-4 on the year and 3-2 in conference, while the Rams slide to 1-9-1 and remain winless in the MASCAC at 0-5.

How it Happened:

  • Salem State went on top as Day scored unassisted at 6:40 of the first to make it 1-0. 
  • Framingham State answered later in the period when Brady Rossbach scored at 17:09, tying the game 1-1. 
  • The Vikings accounted for the only score in the second as Zach Dill connected on the power play early in the period.
  • Once again the Rams tied the game as Scott Bugarin scored unassisted, making it 2-2 early in the third.
  • However, newcomer Henry Wilson scored his first goal for Salem State over a minute later as Salem State reclaimed the lead. 
  • Three seconds later, Nick Sweet extended the Vikings' lead to 4-2. 
  • Carson James added the third goal of the period for the Vikings as Salem State built a 5-2 advantage at 6:25 of the third.  
  • Framingham State once again came back as Jerry Duckett scored an unassisted goal at 10:51.  
  • The Rams cut the deficit to just one, 5-4 when Brent Scott converted a power play goal with less than four minutes remaining.   

Inside the Numbers: 

  • Will Nepveu (6-3) earned the win stopping 31-of-35 shots. 
  • Keagan O'Donoghue had two assists.
  • Alex Timmons (0-4) made 33 saves in the loss.
  • The Rams were 2-for-7 (.286) on the power play.
