Vikings Claim Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational Championship
BOSTON -- Behind goalie Will Nepveu's 40-save effort and two goals from James Tatro, Salem State claimed the 2025 Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational Championship on Sunday, January 5 with a 4-1 win over Middlebury. The tournament sponsored by Noble + Energy was held at Warrior Ice Arena in Brighton.
Nepveu was named BLCI Tournament MVP after registering two wins in net, including a 4-3 overtime victory in the opener against Nichols on Saturday. The sophomore stopped 76-of-80 shots over the two-day tournament for a .950% save percentage. Nepveu has now earned wins in his last four starts.
Salem State improves to 7-4 on the season and has now won six-of-its-past seven games. Landyn Greatorex who posted a goal and four assists in two games was also named to the BLCI All-Tournament Team.
How it Happened:
- Ryan Barrett opened the scoring for Salem State, taking a pass from Zach Dill before slipping the puck past Conor Sullivan at 07:44 of the first.
- James Tatro's one-timer made it a 2-0 game in favor of the Vikings, who converted on their first power play of the game, early in the second.
- Middlebury (5-5) got one back as Dante Palombo redirected a shot to make it a one-score game 6:54 into the second.
- Landyn Greatorex converted Salem State's second power play attempt of the afternoon in the third to make the score 3-1 with less than four minutes remaining.
- Tatro then iced the game forty seconds later as his shorthanded goal ended any chance for the Panthers.
Inside the Numbers:
- Tatro had three goals and an assist in the tournament.
- Sullivan (0-3) finished with 23 saves for Middlebury.
- Dill posted two assists against the Panthers to go with a goal against the Bison.
- Middlebury finished 0-for-6 on the power play.
- Salem State is now 3-8 all-time against the Panthers after snapping a five-game losing streak to Middlebury. This was the Vikings first win since the 2003-04 season.
