Athlete Spotlight: Will Nepveu

SALEM, Mass. -- This week's athlete spotlight features men's ice hockey player Will Nepveu (So., G, Montreal, Quebec), who earned MASCAC Goalie of the Week honors for the second time after setting the Salem State single-game saves record, making 65 saves in Salem State's 4-3 upset win in overtime against #10 Endicott.   

Can you talk about your record-setting performance this past week that led to your player of the week award? 

"I tried to stay in the moment and just keep doing what I could to help my team win. It's amazing to have set the school-record for most saves in a game. It was definitely a team effort, though. It's a great feeling and winning the game against Endicott made it even more special."

What kind of impact will beating a top-10 team have on the rest of the season?

"Beating a top-10 team is huge for us, both in terms of confidence and momentum. It shows that we can compete with the best, and it really sets the tone for the rest of the season."

Where does your performance against Endicott rank for you personally?

"Setting the school-record is definitely a huge personal accomplishment for me and beating a top-10 team like Endicott just makes it even more special. It's definetly the highlight of my college career so far!"

Which strengths do you believe you have that make you a great athlete?

"My biggest strengths as an athlete are my mental focus, my work ethic and love for the game of hockey."

Is there a coach/athlete or someone outside of sports that you look up to as a role model?

"My parents."

How would your coaches and teammates describe you?

"I think they would describe me as hardworking, positive and focused, and also as someone who likes to have a good time with my teammates when the time is right."

Are there any short-term goals you'd like to accomplish this season?

"Keep winning! We have the Boston Landing Collegiate Invitational when we come back from break, and it will be a great opportunity to set the tone for the second half of the season."

Is there an interesting fact that most people don't know about you?

"I speak French."

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of sports?

"I like watching TV shows and hanging out with friends."
