The Trinity College Bantams jumped out to a 2-0 lead en route to a 4-2 win over the Vikings in an ECAC East/NESCAC game played in Hartford, CT.
SSC (6-5-1) received a second period goal from junior forward Jeff Tellier (Chicopee, MA) which cut the Trinity lead to 2-1 and a third period power play strike from junior forward Chris MacInnis (Waltham, MA) with just 1:10 left on the clock.
Tellier's goal, set up by sophomore center Justin Fox (Whitby, Ontario), was his seventh of the season. Tellier, who earned MVP honors in the recent Salem State Classic Tournament after scoring twice including the overtime championship game-winner against nationally-ranked Bowdoin, also earned ECAC East Player the Week honors for his outstanding clutch effort.
MacInnis' scoring strike against the Bantams (7-3), his third of the season, was assisted by freshman Matt Johnson (Lynn, MA) and sophomore defenseman Nick Jillson (North Smithfield, RI). A shorthanded goal off the stick of Richard Hollstein with 1:35 to play in the final stanza sealed the win for the hosts.
SSC senior goaltender Ryan Hatch (Medway, MA) posted double-figure saves in each period (16-15-12) en route to 43 stops. Bantams netminder Wesley Vesprini turned aside 34 shots (13-12-9).
The Vikings next game will be Friday, January 16 at 7:00 pm when they host the Hamilton College Continentals in a league contest at Richard Rockett Ice Arena.
