Men's Golf Finishes Third at MASCAC Championship; Tramonte Named Individual Champion

THE LEAD – The Salem State men's golf team wrapped up the men's golf MASCAC Championship with a third-place finish after carding a team score of 639 (+63). However, Matt Tramonte (Tewksbury, Mass.) highlighted the day for Salem after being named the individual champion of the tournament. 

SALEM STATE HIGHLIGHTS

  • Matt Tramonte (Tewksbury, Mass.) led the Vikings with a second-round score of 75 (+3). During the second day, Tramonte notched three birdies and finished the tournament with an overall +9.  A few spots behind Tramonte was Patrick Cotter (Melrose, Mass.), who ended the day in seventh at 78 (+6). In the front nine, Cotter recorded two birdies for Salem.
  • Joe Orlando (Gloucester, Mass.) and Anthony Choukas (Weymouth, Mass.) capped off the top-15 for the Vikings with Orlando coming in 12th at 82 (+10) and Choukas taking 14th with a score of 83 (+11). Both finished the tournament overall +19 and +21, respectively. 
  • Trevor Thompson (Los Angeles, Calif.) rounded out the leaderboard for Salem after a 17th-place finish by scoring 83 (+11) on the final day, and notched a +21 overall for the tournament. 

OTHER RESULTS

  •  Marymount (Va.) earned the top spot by finishing the tournament with a score of 625 (+49). Rounding out the top five were Springfield College, Salem State, MCLA, and Westfield State.

  • Salem returns to action next Saturday, September 27, at the Bowdoin Invitational at a time to be determined.
