2025 Men's Golf Season Preview
SALEM, Mass. - Coming off an NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship appearance and MASCAC Conference Championship, the Salem State Men's Golf team looks to continue its strides from last year going into the 2025 campaign.
Season Outlook
Men's Golf Head Coach Jimmy O'Reilly enters his fourth year with the program. The Vikings had four top-five finishes last year, highlighted by the program's third MASCAC Championship in four years under O'Reilly when the squad posted a +43 overall score. Just like last season, O'Reilly has the same expectations for this year's team saying "Our expectation every season is to win the MASCAC and qualify for the NCAA Championship," said O'Reilly. Out of the five golfers who competed in the MASCAC Championship, Salem State returns two of the five in Patrick Cotter (Melrose, Mass.) and Joe Orlando (Gloucester, Mass.). Along with Cotter and Orlando returning, the Vikings bring back team captain Matt Tramonte (Tewksbury, Mass.) , who took part in the NCAA Championship and posted a +19 finish.
Coach's Quote: "This is the youngest our team has been since I have been the coach," said O'Reilly. "There has been a motto in SSU golf since Coach Jake founded the program, "faces change but the expectations don't". We have a lot of talented guys who worked hard over the summer and competed in some good events. If things go according to plan, these guys will be hungry to step up and play well, and we won't miss a beat from years past. We are very talented, but very young, and if our guys believe in how talented they are executing golf shots, we will have a very successful campaign."
