Athlete Spotlight: Joe Orlando
SALEM, Mass. -- This week's athlete spotlight features freshman Joe Orlando (Gloucester, Mass.), who was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Golf Rookie of the Week after shooting a 158, including a +5 (77) on day two of the Hartford Hawks/Gillette Ridge Invitational to finish in 17th place.
Can you talk about your performance this past week that led to your player of the week award?
I played well for my first college golf tournament and I'm pleased with the way I was able to grind this past weekend. It was an awesome experience with the guys. I appreciate the recognition.
Are there any short-term goals you'd like to accomplish this season?
I would like for the team to win the [MASCAC] conference this weekend to qualify for nationals in the spring.
Which strengths do you believe you have that make you a great athlete?
I'm mentally tough and able to fight back.
What's the best piece of advice you've gained from your coaches?
Just to forget about the past and only focus on what I can control, which is the next shot.
Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of sports?
I love to fish in the summers.
