Athlete Spotlight: Tyrese Rho

SALEM, Mass. -- This week's athlete spotlight features junior men's basketball player Tyrese Rho (Boston, Mass.), who was recently named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Player of the Week for the week ending November 9. Rho went (10-15) from the field for 29 points and had six rebounds, six assists and two blocks in an 89-64 season-opening win over Colby Sawyer.

Can you talk about your performance this past week that led to your player of the week award?

"This was my first game as a Viking, so getting a win was very important to me, as is every game. I always stress to my teammates how hard and focused we have to play as a group. My teammates along with the coaching staff putting their trust into me is the reason I was able to be successful on Saturday."

Are there any short-term goals you'd like to accomplish this season?

"'Brick by Brick'. Coach Harvey speaks upon this quote everyday and how we must take our small wins and stack them. Once we stack all those small daily wins together we will get the goals we have set within our program."

Which strengths do you believe you have that make you a great athlete?

"'Consistency'. Basketball has been in my life forever so finding routines and schedules to be consistent to maximize my athletic ability."

Is there a coach/athlete or someone outside of sports that you look up to as a role model?
"My mother is someone I think about constantly. She may not be a coach or an athlete, but her guidance and advice in my daily life can be applied to my athletic life to help me achieve whatever I have set for myself."

What's the best piece of advice you've gained from your coaches?

"There's nothing you can't do. You just have to put in the work to get there."

How would your coaches and teammates describe you?

"My coaches and teammates would describe me as a competitor. I'm super hard on my teammates every day in both games and practice. The coaching staff also would describe me as a leader. I love to make sure my teammates and program are together as one both on and off the court."

Is there an interesting fact that most people don't know about you?

"I hate losing more than I love winning."

Do you have any hobbies or interests outside of sports?

"Spending quality time with my friends and family."
